Powder Coating Introduction

Powder coating: Different from traditional solvent-based coatings, it is dry powder. In the past, the older method was by flame spraying and preheating. Now, electrostatic spraying is basically used. The oven is baked and leveled and cured at a temperature of about 200 degrees.

It comes in two broad categories: thermoplastic powder coatings and thermoset powder coatings.

Thermoplastic powder coatings are composed of thermoplastic resins, pigments, fillers, plasticizers and stabilizers. Thermoplastic powder coatings include: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyether, polyamide, cellulose, and polyester.

Thermosetting powder coatings are composed of thermosetting resins, curing agents, pigments, fillers and additives. Thermosetting powder coatings include: epoxy resin, polyester, and acrylic resin.
